Telescopes: collecting more light
A telescope’s aperture determines its light-collecting area and helps set its resolving power. Magnifying a faint, blurry image alone does not create missing detail.
Mirrors can collect and focus light, including wavelengths our eyes cannot see. Space placement avoids atmospheric absorption and distortion for some observations, but ground observatories remain essential. Never aim binoculars or telescopes at the Sun.
Wonder about this
Is the telescope with the biggest advertised magnification always best?
A science clue
No. Light collection, resolution, stability, and suitable conditions matter.
