The Sun: our nearby star
The Sun makes the light that brightens our days. It is a star, not a planet, and the eight planets travel around it.
Deep inside, tiny particles join together and release energy. That energy eventually reaches Earth as light and warmth. Never look directly at the Sun.
Wonder about this
Is the Sun the biggest planet?
A science clue
No. It is our star, a different kind of object from a planet.
