Saturn: millions of separate ring travelers

Saturn’s rings form a broad, remarkably thin system. The particles range greatly in size; their individual orbits and interactions with moons help shape gaps and structures.

A flat picture can conceal the rings’ three-dimensional orientation. Saturn is not the only ringed planet: all four giant planets have rings, though the others are much harder to see.

Wonder about this

Are Saturn’s rings a single solid road?

A science clue

No. They are countless separate orbiting particles.
